Thessalonians 2:9-13 New Living
Translation
9 Don’t you remember, dear brothers
and sisters, how hard we worked among you? Night and day we toiled to earn a
living so that we would not be a burden to any of you as we preached God’s Good
News to you. 10 You yourselves are our witnesses—and so is God—that we were
devout and honest and faultless toward all of you believers. 11 And you know
that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children. 12 We pleaded
with you, encouraged you, and urged you to live your lives in a way that God
would consider worthy. For he called you to share in his Kingdom and glory. 13
Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from
us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we
said as the very word of God—which, of course, it is. And this word continues
to work on you who believe.
Always an avid reader, I enjoy just
about every genre book I pick up. There were many books that have had a
profound effect on my life. From Jane Eyre to Johnny
Got His Gun, some books have taught me to look
at the world through different eyes and see what kind of person I might become.
However, there is one book that never fails to mystify and illuminate all at
the same time. There is one book that continues to show me something new every
time, no matter how many times that particular chapter may have been read in
the past. There is one book that changes me and reveals to me just how much I
need to learn. It is why it is known as “The Living Word.” Jesus said, “I have
much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of
truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his
own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to
come”(John 16:12-13). With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can receive
encouragement, see what really needs to change and find meaning for our lives.
God will help us to learn what we need to know
as we are able to “bear it.” All we
have to do is pick up The Good Book…something to pray about.
Don’t forget to look for the Lord
today. Vicki H.
