Exodus 3:3-6
“3 One
day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of
Midian. He led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the
mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a
blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the
bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. 3 “This is amazing,” Moses
said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go see it.”4 When
the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the
middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied. 5 “Do not
come any closer,” the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing
on holy ground. 6 I am the God of your father - the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” When Moses heard this, he covered his face
because he was afraid to look at God.”
Moses was going about his day, minding his own business. He had put together a new life, quite different from the life he had known in his youth. He expected to pass his years in anonymity with his in-laws in Midian. Then God called his name and changed everything.
While
few are called to change the course of history for us all, God calls everyone
to his purpose. We just have to be listening. Moses could have turned and run
when he saw that fiery bush. But I am pretty sure God would have called on him
again. Read the Book of Jonah if you think trying to avoid a directive from God
is easy! We may not get burning bushes or find ourselves in the belly of a
whale, but make no mistake, God has a purpose for you. You will feel that tug.
Call it conscience that gets your attention. Some might call it a dream or an idea that won't go away. It may
well be out of your comfort zone, but it will not be out of your reach. God
will see to that…something to pray about.
Don’t
forget to look for the Lord today. Vicki H.
