 Thoughts on Last Sunday's Text...

Hebrews 12: 1-2  New International Version

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

You cannot win a race if you have no idea what course to follow. Imagine that eight participants leave the gate at Fountain Square. They go in eight different directions. No one told them what path to follow. One may reach the finish line, unless they get detoured or take a wrong turn somewhere along the course. I don’t know if you’ve driven around the city lately, but it is very easy to get sidetracked or turned around in these parts! Life is the same.

If you don’t know what direction to follow in this life, you will be lost. You will be doomed to run in circles, left to rely on faulty directions, maybe even find yourself in the ditch. Each of us are meant to follow the path laid out for us. How can we find our way? By fixing our eyes on Jesus. His teachings are the only mile markers we will ever need…something to pray about.

Don’t forget to look for the Lord today. Vicki H.
