Choices

Thoughts on last Sunday's text...

Acts 1:21-26 - New International Version

21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.” 23 So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” 26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.

Our lives are made up of choices. Get up or lounge in bed? Eggs or oats?  Coffee or tea?  Left or right?  Every moment is lived out in the choices we make.  Even when the unexpected occurs, we must choose how to respond. It may feel as though we have no choice in some circumstances, but in reality, we do. Even doing nothing is a choice.  Sometimes, when it really counts, it seems impossible to make a choice.

The disciples have illustrated step number one to follow when we have a decision to make. Organize your thoughts, examine your options, and then pray. Admit to your Creator that you recognize that he knows all things and knows what steps should be taken. Admit that you are uncertain and need his help in all things.  Ask for his guidance to live out his will.  Then, wait to be shown the way.  Knowing that you are never alone, no matter what choices you make, can bring you peace...something to pray about.

Your sister in Christ,

Vicki
